What were some critical observations from the sixth official day of Carolina Panthers training camp practice, which also happened to be Fan Fest?

Anticipation and energy enveloped Bank of America Stadium as the Carolina Panthers took to the controversial home turf for Fan Fest. Almost 40,000 tickets had been distributed for the occasion according to team reporter Darin Gantt, which is the largest in many years and comes on the back of one of the brightest offseasons in franchise history.

Those in attendance got the chance to see their new heroes practicing in pads, which is unusual for this event. All eyes were on quarterback Bryce Young as the new face of the organization, but others also came to the fore throughout another fascinating session from the outside looking in.

On this topic, here are four critical observations from Carolina's sixth official training camp practice at Fan Fest 2023.

Carolina Panthers got C.J. Henderson back

After missing a few practices through injury, the Carolina Panthers got a welcome boost when cornerback C.J. Henderson returned for Fan Fest. Considering undrafted free-agent Rejzohn Wright is also sitting out, this gave Ejiro Evero's defense another body and allowed the players to resume a promising preparation period so far.

The Panthers took their time with Henderson to avoid any further complications. Looking at the current state of affairs within the cornerback room, the team can ill afford any of their top-four options going down for a lengthy period.

Henderson has a different mindset about him these days and is responding well to superior coaching. Hopefully, he can put a consistent run of practices together and also shine when preseason reps come his way heading into the 2023 campaign.

Carolina Panthers WR Terrace Marshall Jr. shows out

There were murmurings beginning to emerge about Terrace Marshall Jr.'s influence within the Carolina Panthers' offensive scheme in 2023. Not from the coaches, obviously, but fans had every right to be a little concerned given that Adam Thielen, D.J. Chark, and perhaps even Laviska Shenault Jr. had been outperforming the wideout throughout training camp so far.

This could be a big year for Marshall after he flashed moments of quality over the second half of 2022 once Matt Rhule was fired. Expecting him to immediately become a true No. 1 wide receiver option is pushing things, but there's nothing to suggest from an athletic standpoint that a breakout campaign isn't a more than realistic target.

Whether Marshall heard all these slight concerns across social media is anyone's guess. However, it's evident the LSU product was eager to put on a show in front of almost 40,000 supporters at Fan Fest on Wednesday evening.

Marshall came up with multiple noteworthy highlights throughout the event. His route-running during scrimmage time was crisp and the player's physical dominance overwhelmed almost everyone during one-on-ones for good measure.

If Panthers fans wanted to see a response from Marshall, they got it in no uncertain terms. Building on this newfound momentum is the next challenge, but all signs point to the third-year-pro being a prolific presence for rookie quarterback Bryce Young to call upon.

Carolina Panthers OLB Eku Leota catches the eye

With no concrete presence emerging opposite Brian Burns at edge rusher with Marquis Haynes Sr. on the sidelines through injury, speculation continues to mount about whether further reinforcements are needed. Kobe Jones has exceeded expectations, but it's been relatively quiet from others lower down the depth chart looking to find their way.

However, there were signs of life from Eku Leota during Fan Fest that definitely caught the eye. The undrafted free agent out of Auburn was a constant menace whenever he took the field, seemingly able to plunge into the quarterback's lap at will with explosiveness that became synonymous with his time at the collegiate level.

Leota has the size and knows how to maximize opportunities. Mike Kaye of The Charlotte Observer counted three pressures at one stage for the rookie, which is always the most sure-fire way to get noticed by the Carolina Panthers' exceptional coaching staff.

This is positive for Leota, but whether it'll be enough to make the 53-man roster remains to be seen. There is plenty of competition for places in this area of the field - especially with only one outside linebacking position having a confirmed starter - so joint practices with the New York Jets and preseason reps will be crucial for the player before his fate is sealed.

The energy and instincts are there for all to see with Leota. And Wednesday's practice will have boosted his confidence tremendously at an important stage in the team's preparations.

Carolina Panthers QB Bryce Young's efficiency

There is no moment too big for Bryce Young. The No. 1 overall selection in the 2023 NFL Draft is taking everything in his stride and appreciating the moment throughout his first offseason as a professional player, winning over teammates with ruthless efficiency and inspiring a fanbase that had become accustomed to suspect quarterback play since Cam Newton's controversial release in 2020.

That's not the case anymore. Young represents Carolina's great hope for the future under a coaching staff that will maximize the immense gifts at his disposal - a refreshing change of pace from the previous regime's lack of talent development.

Young's adrenaline was probably a little higher than normal getting onto the field at Bank of America Stadium in pads for the first time on Wednesday evening. But as is the case throughout his flourishing football career to date, the signal-caller didn't let the magnitude of the moment alter his mindset or ability to produce the goods.

Aside from a deep end-zone shot that was intercepted on the final play of practice, Young was his clinical self. The Heisman Trophy winner looked poised in the pocket, made the correct reads almost constantly, and got the football out efficiently when pressure arrived.

Bradley Bozeman was also quick to point out Young's confidence and command of the huddle after practice, which is another positive. Sterner tests are coming for the one-time Alabama stud, but he's passed everything with flying colors up to now and one would be hard-pressed to bet against him in any environment at the moment.
