Could the Panthers Add Alge Crumpler?

My thanks to Adam and Zach over at the Arrowhead Addict for the heads up on this article from ESPN.  It ran yesterday and, on this one, I have to take the rap.  I missed it.

After breaking down the Carolina Panthers’s team piece by piece, we came to a few conclusions.  Among them was that the team needed an upgrade at tight end.  They at least need a better pass-catching tight end.

After this week’s first round of roster cuts, one player has been given his freedom who fits that bill – Alge Crumpler.  You remember him, right?  He’s the guy the Panthers had to defend twice a year when they played the Atlanta Falcons.

Pete Yasinskas over at ESPN wonders aloud in his article if the Panthers could be interested in signing the unemployed tight end.  My guess is that a lot of teams might be interested in him.  The Panthers have as much knowledge of the guy as anybody outside of A-Town.  They certainly know what he can do on the field.

Crumpler could be a good fit for the Panthers.  He could take the heat off of Steve Smith while he works the middle of the field.  Whether he’s still one of the elite tight ends in the game is questionable but he would be a solid addition to any roster.  Kind of makes you wonder what the Falcons have in mind by throwing him out with the day’s garbage.
