Scratch One Big Name Free Agent
You can now remove one big name free agent from the list of available players. Comcast Sportsnet is reporting that Asante Samuel is visiting with the Eagles today and that a deal is in place. A media availability has been scheduled adding to the speculation that a deal has been reached.
Of course, they are quoting an unnamed league source, whoever that is, but the report is out there.
In other breaking news…
The Jaguars have reportedly acquired wide receiver Troy Williamson from the Vikings. The team sent a sixth round pick in exchange for the struggling player. (Orlando Sentinel)
Corey Williams’ six-year contract with the Browns is with $38 million and includes $16.3 million in guarantees according to Pro Football Talk.
Rams kicker Jeff Wilkins will retire.
More updates are coming throughout the day.

Looks like it’s a done deal. Samuel to the Eagles 5 years 47 million.
February 29th, 2008 at 12:34 pmWhy in the hell are we not going after Odom(DE). Were cutting all these players to get cap room and we let a good DT good which is fine, but Brayton is not going to get it done. Odom is younger and had 8 sacks last year and if our D-line is to get better it should start first with him soon.
February 29th, 2008 at 12:38 pmSamuel will be a good addition in Philly. My only worry is whether or not he was a system CB in NE…I think the Panthers are waiting it out through this first big rush in free agency. But they do need to get something done with their defensive line.
February 29th, 2008 at 12:54 pmwell its final Vilma will be a saint and i agree forget that stupid kid from oakland idc if he supposebly can play DT and DE we need to go after odom i mean they said he did great b/c of the other members on his line well i dont think the panthers have a bad line wether we have jenkins or not odom would make a great fit.
February 29th, 2008 at 1:10 pmRight now, the Panthers are doing the same thing they did last year. They’re sitting back, and trying to avoid spending serious money in free agency. They’re not going to spend anymore money until the draft
February 29th, 2008 at 2:49 pmThe Panthers could wind up being one of the quietest teams in the league in free agency. They have needs but my guess is they’ll let other teams overspend on players early and then they might dip their toes in the pool.
February 29th, 2008 at 3:09 pmI just hope they don’t wait to long to dip their toes. Waited too long before and ended up with Deke Cooper
February 29th, 2008 at 4:31 pmSometimes it’s not a bad idea to wait and let other teams spend all of their money but getting second and third tier talent is only going to create a second or third tier team. They have too many holes to fill to wait too long. I agree.
February 29th, 2008 at 6:20 pmWe have salary cap room, we should go buy Micheal Turner.
March 1st, 2008 at 11:04 amturner is visiting with the falcons and then is heading to detriot so odds r we wouldnt get turner. we can hopefully fill a RB in the draft but we need to go lock up a #2 reciever b4 its to late we need a deep threat who is quick like smith we have ppl to run the middle and short routes also id like us to sign odom not this guy from oakland and coleman still wouldn be a horrible DT to have behind r other starters.
