Justin Hartwig Released

Carolina Panthers General Manager, Marty Hurney said the team had tried to trade Justin Hartwig.  There were no takers.

The team had decided to move last year’s second round pick, Ryan Kalil, into the starting lineup at center and allow Hartwig to compete for a spot at right guard.  However, Hartwig prefers to play center, his natural position, so the team allowed him to seek a spot with another team by releasing him.

He had been a high profile free agent signing for the Panthers in 2006 but missed much of his first season with the team due to injury.

Now, it’s up to Kalil to prove himself as the starting center.

The makeover continues.
