Jimmy Clausen Ready to Work for Panthers

Connecticut v Notre Dame

I’m not happy about the selection of Notre Dame’s Jimmy Clausen by the Carolina Panthers with their first pick in this year’s draft, but at the same time he does fill a team need, and the field of receivers are still plentiful.

Jimmy Clausen is very happy to be a Carolina Panther. “You guys just made the best pick in the draft and I’m going to make you proud,” said Clausen.

I say words are cheap, but if he lives up to the hype, Clausen is a steal for the Panthers that late in the draft.

On a positive note, Clausen is from a pro-style offense at Notre Dame, and it will be very interesting to see how the competition for the starting quarterback job heats up in Spartanburg, SC, during training camp between Clausen and Matt Moore.

Clausen is quite familiar with Moore, as Moore played against his brothers in their high school division.

Clausen also hopes the Panthers are still able to get Golden Tate. I have to agree. How awesome would that be?

Welcome to the Panthers, Jimmy Clausen!

Golden went to the Seahawks a few minutes ago. That would have been great. But we’ve got 3 6th round picks and 2 7th rounders. We could maybe leverage those to trade up for another guy we like or just use them to stockpile depth and hope someone sticks. There’s always value in those late rounds.

Most definitely, Stephen. I still stand pat that the Panthers go with receiver in the third. We’ll have to wait and see what develops, though. Gilyard is still available, among other promising talent at the receiver position.
