If you’re thinking “no way, impossible, ain’t happenin,” then you’re probably right.

But this has an interesting twist, even though it’s evident where the screw-up happened.

Somehow, someone at NFL.com made the mix-up when Cincinnati Bengals cornerback DeAngelo Willingham was cut from the team on Friday.

Just to be safe, practically every team not named the Carolina Panthers might file a waiver clain anyway, just in case.

Here’s the twist.

After the mistake was realized, the name was changed from Williams to Willingham. However a little while later, the name reverted back to Williams.

So earlier today the Bengals cut several players.  One of them was cornerback DeAngelo Willingham.

And at some point in the transfer of information from Cincinnati to New York City to the folks who run NFL.com, Bengals cornerback DeAngelo Willingham became Panthers running back DeAngelo Williams.

A little more from PFT.

As of right now — and last I checked — DeAngelo Williams is safe and sound on the roster of the Carolina Panthers.

    I died a little bit when I read this…not funny…OK, a little funny…but not cool.

I hear ya, Jared. When I initially caught wind of it, I said why am I not freaking surprised? Only I used a different word.

Yeh,the first thing that came to mind was Fox better be right behind him. I swear my heart stopped beating for 5 seconds.

I really don’t have a problem with Fox like some or most fans have. I like his coaching style. Always have.

Thanks for the read and comments, Mark!

Yeah that’s a scary headline. I thought to myself this better be reporting a bad report from somewhere else or the Panthers have some explaining to do.

    Glad it was the former.

Me too, John. I was quite relieved that it was a flub on someone’s part.

Did a World Cup official make this error?
DeAngelo & Jonathan Stewart will ‘romp’ this year.
    Go Panthers.

HA! You never know Rich, right?

Thanks for the read and comment.

Hahaha, that is hilarious. I about had a heart attack reading the title. It was like when my Seahawks released LenDale White, but way worse.

I can imagine the shock, Mr. B. Thankfully, it was nothing more than a mix-up. Even though Willingham and Williams don’t really even sound similar to be confused.
