Carolina Panthers Release Running Back DeAngelo Williams

If you’re thinking “no way, impossible, ain’t happenin,” then you’re probably right.

But this has an interesting twist, even though it’s evident where the screw-up happened.

Somehow, someone at NFL.com made the mix-up when Cincinnati Bengals cornerback DeAngelo Willingham was cut from the team on Friday.

Just to be safe, practically every team not named the Carolina Panthers might file a waiver clain anyway, just in case.

Here’s the twist.

After the mistake was realized, the name was changed from Williams to Willingham. However a little while later, the name reverted back to Williams.

"So earlier today the Bengals cut several players.  One of them was cornerback DeAngelo Willingham. And at some point in the transfer of information from Cincinnati to New York City to the folks who run NFL.com, Bengals cornerback DeAngelo Willingham became Panthers running back DeAngelo Williams."

A little more from PFT.

As of right now — and last I checked — DeAngelo Williams is safe and sound on the roster of the Carolina Panthers.
