Live Blog: Panthers vs. Packers

facebooktwitterreddit

–One note, Cam Newton set a rookie record for passing yards today. He threw for 422 yards but still result is the same. Panthers lose.

–Terrible attempt at an onside kick there. Donald Driver easily recovers and that is the ball game. Rodgers takes a knee and the Panthers lose 30-23. The Panthers fall to 0-2 on the season, while the Packers move to 2-0.

–Newton takes it himself in for the touchdown. Panthers cut into the Packers lead now down 30-23. Onside kick is up next.

–Newton has thrown the ball 41 times. Panthers have rushed it 11 times.

–And that is probably it. Rodgers hits Jordy Nelson on a slant and he is gone for the touchdown, 30-16 Packers.

— Panthers turn the ball over on downs. Newton taken down by Clay Matthews after he couldn’t find anyone. Held on to the ball much to long.

–Newton runs a bootleg on outside didn’t have anywhere to go and losses yards. Forth down and four. Big play

–From the looks of this right now Jonathan Stewart is the number one running back. he has been much more effective and played a lot more than DeAngelo Williams.

–From replay I am seeing looks like it should be a catch for LaFell. He got both feet down and maintained the catch all the way to the ground.

–What a catch by Brandon LaFell. That is how you go up and get the ball. Wow. But Packers are going to challenge the catch.

— Newton looks a little shaken up after that sack.

–Great run by Stewart there manages to get the first down.

–Packers able to get back into field goal range with a Rodgers pass to Donald Driver. Another field goal by Crosby and Packers are up 23-13

–Holding on Packers. They are out of field goal range right now.

–Charles Johnson with a ncie sack. second and long for Pack.

–Charles Godfrey is back on the field.

— Greg Hardy flagged for roughing the passer. I am not so sure about that call.

–Newton picked off again. This one he overthrew Naanee. Can we run the ball a bit, maybe not throw it down the field so much?

–Panthers hold on third down. Green Bay settles for a field goal again. Panthers are still in this game, down 20-13.

–Gamble with the touchdown saving tackle there on John Kuhn. Great play Gamble a bit shaken up.

–That isn’t good Godfrey having to walk off the field. Looks like he has a head or neck injury.

–Steve Smith makes a huge catch from Newton on a crossing route then fumbles the ball trying to get an extra few yards. Wasn’t really holding it very securely.

–Panthers hold Packers to a field goal there. Good hold based on field position, 17-13 Packers.

–Newton throws another pick to Charles Woodson. This could get out of hand quick. Packers have a lot of momentum right now.

–Jordan Pugh gets toasted, Greg Jennings hauls in the big touchdown pass. Packers take the lead, 14-13.

–Couple of notes. First Chris Gamble has been playing great. This new coaching staff has really lit a fire under him. Secondly, Newton is legit. Even though it has just been a half Newton has shown he can play in this league.

–Great half by the Panthers. Leading the Super Bowl Champions 13-7. Newton looked really sharp earlier on but has cooled off a bit. Still great half. Defense looks great right now.

–Man I don’t know f it is the Panthers defense or Rodgers just having an off game but he doesn’t look sharp. A lot of overthrows.

— Panthers hold on fourth down against Packers. Have a chance to get some points on the board before the half.

–Ouch interception there by Charles Woodson. Newton tried to force that one into Smith there. See if the defense can hold again.

–Newton makes it look so easy. Sits back in the pocket then rolls right, scrambles for an easy first down.

–Thomas Davis follows that up with a great chase down tackle on Rodgers.

–Eric Norwood with the shoe string tackle on Rodgers. This defense is playing great right now.

–Newton goes down. Panthers will punt.

–Newton back out on the field. See if he can respond after Packers scored.

–Touchdown Packers. John Kuhn with the run up the middle. 13-7 Panthers.

–Ouch that hurts didn’t look like pass interference there.

–Of course I say that and Rodgers finds  Finley deep for a big game.

–I tell you what the defense is fired up right now.

–Carolina Panthers add on another field goal up 13-0 on the Super Bowl Champions.

–Panthers unable to get first down, play it safe and take the points with a field goal. 10-0 Panthers.

–Fumble on the kick return by Randall Cobb. Panthers recover. Newton back at it.

–Play stands. Touchdown Panthers.

–Play is under review though. By the way while we have a break let it be known that I hate this new rule that every touchdown has to be reviewed. It slows the game down enormously and just sucks in my opinion. Let the coach make the call is he want’s to challenge it or now. If you want more reviews give coaches three or four challenges.

–Touchdown Panthers! Newton beautiful pass to LaFell in the corner of the endzone. Wow Panthers up 7-0.

–First and goal. Panthers have got to score a touchdown here. Can’t settle for a field goal.

–Ouch that hurts, Newton hits Olsen for easy touchdown but its whipped out by illegal shift.

–Panthers start hot throwing the ball. Newton hits Shockey twice. Panthers moving the ball pretty easy down the field right now.

–Quick last minute fantasy update from Slate Schwertner for the Panthers–Packers football game.

Packers:

Love: Jermichael Finley, Without Beason TE’s are going to wreck shop on our defense

Hate: Greg Jennings, Gamble held Fitzgerald to 3 catches last week, so it doesn’t look good.

Sleeper: Donald Driver, With Jennings drawing double coverage Driver will sneak up with a huge game.

Panthers:

Love: Greg Olsen, CharlesWoodson will make it near impossible to throw the ball to Steve Smith

Hate: Steve Smith, see previous comment and Charles Woodson

Sleeper: Cam Newton: Not going to put up numbers like last week but expect him to run the ball a bit more.

–By the way guys want to hear from you comment below and we will get a solid chat going.

–Alright we are less than a hour away from the game and we got the blog up and running. Real quick a few thoughts on the game. I know most people think the Panthers are going to get rolled today against the Super Bowl Champs but I think we have a shot. We match up decent against the Packers offense and if Charles Johnson and company can get some pressure on Aaron Rodgers the Panthers may have a chance.

Speaking of chances here is a  youtube video showcasing just that,  there is always a chance!!!!!

— If you missed our story earlier on the Panther inactives here is the list again.

Jimmy Clausen, Jason Williams, Reggie Wells, Jeff Otah, Kealoha Pilares, Ronald Fields, Josh Thomas
