Shockey not happy about interference call

Well Jeremy Shockey wasn’t to happy after the game ended Saturday. Shockey and his Carolina Panthers lost the game Sunday against the Chicago Bears 34-29. But there was a point in that game where the game could have gone completely the other way and that play included a touchdown pass from quarterback Cam Newton to his tight end.

It was in the second half and the Panthers were down 24-20, but still very in this game. And it looked like they took the lead when Newton hit Shockey over the middle for a 22-yard touchdown pass in the endzone. But there was some laundry on the field and Chicago Bears defensive back Charles Tillman was laying on the ground.

The call was offensive interference on Shockey, negating the touchdown.  But the replay wasn’t as conclusive. Here is a link to the video here by the way. Here is what Shockey had to say after the game courtesy of the Charlotte Observer.

"“Maybe the official saw something (different from) what I did,” Shockey said. “I’d like the league to go back and look at that and give an explanation because it was a big play in the game. The momentum is on our side and it comes back. That’s definitely hurts our team momentum-wise.”“I’ve been playing this game a long time and … I don’t know. I’d like to hear the explanation from the league and really understand why they would call something like that. He never gave me any explanation at all.”"

Yes, it looked like Shockey may have extended his hand against Tillman but it looked nothing more than something that happens every single play. Had Tillman not lost his footing because Shockey had beaten him so bad, he wouldn’t have fallen and the Panthers would have scored a touchdown and maybe won the game. Instead, they lost and dropped to 1-3 on the season.

"“We pay their salary and can’t get an explanation,” Shockey said. “I’d like to see the explanation when they do get graded.“They should be held accountable as well. They get paid a lot of money. They go around and hang out and do whatever they do before the game. Fly for free and do all kinds of (stuff) for free. Very disappointing, disheartening. I don’t know what else to say.”"

Maybe he pushed off a bit more maybe he didn’t we will never know. Maybe the Panthers score that touchdown but still lose. Whatever the case is I can almost guarantee Shockey will be fined.
