Final Cuts Are Announced

It’s a sad day and one that coach John Fox readily admits that he hates.  What coach would like having to send 20-plus guys back to the unemployment line?  Unfortunately, it’s listed in the job description and the league has a limit on the number of players you can have on your roster.

It all adds up to a lot of broken dreams and disappointment but, still, the Carolina Panthers had to announce their final cuts for their 2008 roster on Saturday.

No surprise that Brett Basanez was released with the addition of Josh McCown on Friday.  There were a few revelations in the list, however.

• Ricardo Colclough was among those on the terminated list after an early morning DWI on the day of the cuts
• Stanley McClover was among those released allowing room for rookie Hilee Taylor
• Decori Birmingham and Labrandon Toefield were both released leaving Jonathan Stewart, DeAngelo Williams and Nick Goings
• Toniu Fonoti was listed as terminated after beginning training camp with the starting unit
• Terrence Holt was also listed as terminated after being signed as a free agent
• Samie Parker, the recently singed WR was among those on the terminated list
• Jonathan Stewart’s old Oregon teammate, Geoff Schwartz, didn’t make the cut
• Milford Brown was also listed under the heading of terminated

Below is the complete list of players released/terminated.  Sunday should be an interesting day around the league as teams make further roster moves.  Some of these players could still wind up with other teams while the Panthers roster, while at the limit tonight, will likely look different on Monday morning.
