Carolina Panthers Add RB, Waive CB
Good Wednesday morning, Cat Cravers! We’re halfway to Friday!
The latest coming out of Panthers training camp, was the addition of veteran running back Dantrell Savage.
Savage, formerly with the Kansas City Chiefs, was added to Carolina’s roster, as DeAngelo Williams and Josh Vaughan have been the team’s only two healthy running backs.
Jonathan Stewart, who was alleged to be “100 percent” two weeks ago (according to Stewart), has yet to practice a single down during training camp. Interestingly, while “resting” on the sidelines, Stewart has been observed skipping hurdles with teammate and wide receiver Steve Smith.
If Stewart’s still not 100 percent, then my question is what does the coaching and training staff think of Stewart’s latest hurdle-jumping activities? Surely that’s not the wisest activity to be participating in while nursing a bum heel.
Fellow running backs Mike Goodson and Tyrell Sutton have also been relegated to the sideline, with injuries suffered during training camp.
Savage who was with the Chiefs for two seasons, played mostly on special teams. He contributed 25 carries for 98 yards. It’s not known for how long Savage will be a member of the Panthers; at this point, one can only surmise that once all running backs are healthy and back in action, Savage will most likely be waived.
While adding Savage to the roster, the Panthers waived their first player of training camp, cornerback Marcus Walker; the move, necessitated to make room for the signing of Savage on the 80-man roster, after Walker suffered a calf injury on Saturday.
