UPDATED: Sutton, Irvin highlight list of morning cuts by Panthers

facebooktwitterreddit

–The Carolina Panthers have to trim their roster down to 53 men by 6 pm today and the team started up early  Saturday morning when in a surprise move the team released running back Tyerll Sutton.

Sutton announced the move today on his twitter.

"@AllofASutton22 Been real Carolina but I’m gone"

Upon hearing this I was a bit shocked.  He has been consistent when called upon and is a very good backup running back. I thought Sutton was a lock to make the team but with the injury to full back Tony Fiammetta, the Panthers may be forced to carry multiple fullbacks, leaving Sutton left out.  Sutton is in his third year in the league after playing college ball at Northwestern. During his time with the Panthers he played in 16 games, rushing the ball 25 times for 139 yards.

Sutton followed up his initial response with this one.

"@AllOfASutton22: It’s the nature of the beast. Can’t take it personally."

–The Panthers also announced that they have cut ties with defensive tackles Corey Irvin, Nick Hayden and DeJuan Robinson, leaving only three defensive tackles on the roster. That definitely means the team will be looking for a veteran tackle to sign once cuts are announced. Expect the Panthers to be very active once other teams start to make roster cuts. The team has a couple holes that need to be filled at offensive guard, defensive tackle and cornerback.
