Updated: Davis tears ACL again
According to Thomas Davis’ twitter account, the Panthers starting outside linebacker has retorn his ACL.Ron Rivera said that Davis was having an MRI during his press conference today at noon.
"@TD58SDTM I would like 2 take the time and thank every1 that has supported me over my career. Unfortunately, I have re torn my acl. Thx 4 da prayers!!"
This is terrible news for the Panthers and even worst news for Davis. The Panthers linebacker has know torn his ACL in three consecutive seasons. Davis, the Panthers former first round pick in 2005 first torn his ACL in the middle of the 2009 season. He was in the mist of one of his best seasons of his career prior to the injury. From there he torn his ACL again while rehabbing last season and missed the entire season in 2010.
Davis was hurt during the middle of the third quarter during Sunday’s game against the Green Bay Packers. Davis was able to walk off the field under his own power and actually came back and played another play later in the drive but immediately took himself out after that.
Omar Gaither is most liking going to fill in for Davis for the time being and Davis had nothing but positives to say about him on twitter.
"@TD58SDTM Omar is a great player and he will do a great job for us."
In two games, Davis had 12 tackles and one fumble recovery.
Panthers players Brandon LaFell and fellow injured linebacker reached out to Davis on twitter offering words of encouragement to him.
"@BLafell1 IM GONNA HOLD U DOWN BRUH @TD58SDTM@JonBeason I love you my brother. Hold your head and remain the strong willed person you are. Better days r in sight"
This is just devastating news for Davis. There are not many other players in the NFL that play with the passion, fun and enthusiasm as Davis does. With Jon Beason already out for the season with an Achilles tear, what seemed like the Panthers deepest position, linebacker, now has almost zero depth.
