Thoughts on Week Two’s game
Another week another loss, but with it again comes reasons to be optimistic about our Carolina Panthers. We faced the defending World Champion Green Bay Packers who in Week 1 defeated our dangerous division rival the Saints 42 to 34. We also surcame to the Packers 30 to 23 but in a game that was less of a shootout and more of a chess match. Considering we went 2-14 last season, competing with the Packers is a good indication that the Panthers are at least moving in the right direction. Now on to my thoughts after this weeks game.
- We as a team have still not “meshed”. The Panthers are a young team. Combine that with the fact that we have a new coaching staff (1st time head coach at that) and had a shortened training camp, our team is not yet polished enough to win the close games. We continue to commit way too many penalties and turnovers. Until we begin to mesh and cut out the penalties and turnovers, be prepared for us to come out on the losing end more often then not when the game is close.
- Cam threw for even more yards then he did in Week 1! Difference is this week he also showed that he is still a rookie after throwing three interceptions.
- Chud is doing a great job at calling plays. When Cam started to reach and go to the well one too many times with Steve Smith the offensive play calling changed. Chud began to start working the screen passes and Tight Ends again to settle Cam down. After that the yardage started piling on again.
- What is with our running game? What happened to DeAngelo? Did he look slow to anyone else? Stewart is currently looking like the better back. Not only that, he has improved his pass catching ability. I use to think DeAngelo was a better pass catcher but after Stewart’s 8 receptions 100 yard performance I may have to reconsider.
- I’ve noticed Steve Smith has been dropping a lot of balls the last two years and in Week 2 this year he had a couple key drops. In the past the problem was not noticeable to most because our passing game was so horrible but now that our passing game has sky rocketed I’m wondering if this is going to be a on going issue for our star receiver or if he is going to step up now that he has the opportunity to actually do some catching unlike in years past.
- Charles Johnson is a beast.
- I hope Thomas Davis is OK. He left the game with an injury that looked like it may be related to the knee had surgery on twice already.
- I still love how pissed Cam looks when he gets an L. I’ll love it even more when I get to see how happy he is when he gets his first W.
- Brandon LaFell is turning into a beast. He had some great catches in this game. He really gave an excellent performance.
- Naanee has not. I hope Ron doesn’t start players he has experience with over those with superior talent like Fox started players who had more experience but less talent.
- Get Armanti involved on offense!
