Pugh, Butler among inactives for Carolina Panthers
The Carolina Panthers released their list of inactives for the week eight game against the Minnesota Vikings and there were really no surprises. Running back Mike Goodson remains inactive, as does backup quarterback Jimmy Clausen, who is now the team’s third quarterback behind both Cam Newton and Derek Anderson.
Backup saftey Jordan Pugh, who was listed as doubtful for the game with a concussion is indeed out for the game. Pugh missed last week’s game also with the head injury. Darius Butler is also inactive for the Panthers after missing the whole week of practice for family reasons. Butler’s young child is in the hospital undergoing heart surgery and Butler was excused from practice to be with him and his family.
Needless to say the Panthers will be very thin in the secondary. Jemale Hines will back up both safeties if need be and R.J. Stanford will be the first cornerback off of the bench, filling in for Butler.
For the Vikings the biggest news for them is the fact that Percy Harvin is active. Harvin was questionable heading into the game this week but should be ready to go against the Panthers. Also, Antoine Winfield the Vikes starting cornerback is out as well. This is big news for the Panthers and Steve Smith, without Winfield the Vikings’ pass defense should be a lot more vulnerable.
