Carolina Panthers: Is joint practice good?

facebooktwitterreddit

Now that we have the first preseason game for the Carolina Panthers in the books and in the books with a victory, we look forward to another week of training camp before the next preseason game versus the Miami Dolphins.  However, this coming week of training camp will be different.

Different you ask – yes, different.  After having the weekend off after Friday night’s game against the Buffalo Bills, the Panthers begin this week of training camp looking at a different second half of the week for practice.  This marks the week the Panthers will have a joint training camp practice, something that rarely happens for the Panthers, against the Miami Dolphins.

The Dolphins will come in for a joint practice with the Panthers on Wednesday, August 19th and Thursday, August 20th, before the teams play the second preseason game on Saturday, August 22nd at Bank of America stadium.

So is the joint practice something good for the teams?  This year, 14 different NFL teams will have joint practices against one another.  Some have a preseason game after the joint practices, while other teams do not play in the preseason.

Besides the Panthers and Dolphins, here is a look the other teams

  • Texans and Redskins:  Had their joint practice August 6th-8th, but did not have a preseason game against one another.
  • Giants and Bengals:  Had their joint practice August 11th-12th and played a preseason game August 14th, which the Bengals won 23-10.
  • Rams and Cowboys:  Have their joint practice August 17th-18th, but do not have a preseason game against one another.
  • Bills and Browns:  Have their joint practice August 17th-18th and play a preseason game on August 20th.
  • Patriots and Saints:  Have their joint practice August 19th-20th and play a preseason game on August 22nd.
  • Bears and Colts:  Have their joint practice August 19th-20th and play a preseason game on August 22nd.

So is having a joint practice with the Miami Dolphins good for the Carolina Panthers?  The answer, yes and no.

The reason it is?  It breaks the constant hitting of your teammates and gives a different perspective for your offense and defense to see.

The reason it is not?  Look at what happened during the Texans and Redskins joint practice.  You can call that a constant brawl and not practice.  We definitely do not want that to happen for the Panthers.

You make the call, but I thought the reason we had preseason was to have the ‘joint practices’.
