Carolina Panthers finally reach top in the Power Rankings

The Carolina Panthers remain undefeated, only now, the Carolina Panthers are now the only undefeated team in the NFL after the New England Patriots lost to the Denver Broncos on Sunday night.

So what does this mean exactly?  Well, the Carolina Panthers now have an even bigger bullseye on their backs against all opponents starting with the New Orleans Saints this week.

The NFL recognized this game as one of the highlights of the week and was moved to the 4:25 p.m. EST time slot in a game originally scheduled for 1 p.m. EST.

The Panthers are obviously getting recognized now, but are they getting the credit they deserve?

Take a look at the analysis by Pat Kirwan, from CBSSports.com, who released his latest power rankings yesterday.  Guess where he has the Panthers – first.

Kirwan’s description of having the Panthers in this position:

“Panthers: The QB is an MVP candidate, the running game is among the best in the NFL, the defense is

dominant in every facet of the game, and the Panthers are the only remaining undefeated team in the ranks. Last Week: 2″

However, he questions if the Panthers can stay in this spot.  Why question the Panthers being here?  Have they not proved themselves yet as to what they can do?

The Panthers have bent, but not broke and have proved they can come up big in clutch situations.

Of the top twelve teams in Kirwan’s power rankings, the Panthers have defeated four of these teams – the Seahawks, the Colts, the Packers and the Texans.  So how can a case be made that the Panthers are not deserving of the top spot?

Nobody is respecting the Panthers and what they have done this season so far, have said it before and will continue to say it until something changes.

The Patriots fell to fifth in the power rankings after being first last week.

If the Panthers were to lose, they would probably fall out of the top ten with how much respect they receive.
