Round 3: pick 93: John Theus – Georgia OT

Why the Carolina Panthers need him:

Michael Oher has the blindside covered and Carolina’s interior offensive linemen are as as good as any team in the NFL. However, the right tackle spot is a sore point and Mike Remmers was exposed badly in the Super Bowl trying to keep up with the likes of Von Miller.

John Theus is a very big boy who has the ideal kind of body type to succeed as a tackle in the NFL. He has experience at right and left tackle in a pro style kind of offense. Adding him to the competition for training camp won’t hurt anybody with the possible exception of Remmers.

Watch him work against the monster pass rushers of Clemson and you’ll get a better idea of what he can do.

Highlights:

The good:

“Possesses a naturally large frame with broad shoulders, long arms (34 1/8″) and a relatively trim middle. Offers some positional versatility after splitting time between left and right tackle over four years as starter in a pro-style scheme.” -CBS Sports

The bad:

“Overly reliant on an initial shove and fails to sustain blocks. Too often plays flat-footed or even on his heels (rather than on the balls of his feet) at the moment of contact, leaving him off-balance and vulnerable to quickness, including counter moves.” -CBS Sports
