Round Seven #252 Overall: Beau Sandland: Montana State TE

Grade: B+

Why: Projected as a possible mid round pick, landing Beau Sandland this late in the draft was fortunate for Gettleman and the Panthers. Sandland has tremendous upside and has the potential to make the final 53-man roster or practice squad, which is not bad for a guy selected one pick away from Mr. Irrelevant.

Sandland began his collegiate career in Miami with the Hurricanes, but transferred to Montana State in 2014. Last season he flourished, catching 37 passes and securing nine touchdowns. The sixth rated TE out of the NFL Combine, Sandland is a sizeable target (6’4″) and willing to help in blocking schemes for the run. One of the few knocks on his games is development at the FCS level and whether that will transition against professional athletes in the NFL. However, his size, pass-catching capabilities, range, and upside are unavoidable.

With the proper development as he will be learning alongside one of the best in the league, Greg Olsen, Sandland could arise as a formidable tight end one day for the Panthers.
