STRONG SIDE LINEBACKER

Starter: Shaq Thompson

The Panthers’ 2015 first round pick, Shaq Thompson, should see an increase in playing time in 2016. With the Panthers operating primarily out of a nickel package, Thompson’s snaps were limited throughout the year. Nonetheless, he consistently found a way to make plays and flash the potential he has. With another offseason of work and his abilities in pass coverage, Thompson should get a chance to prove himself this season.

Backup: A.J. Klein

With Thompson likely to take advantage of all the snaps he can get at strong side backer, Klein shouldn’t see much time here but regardless is ready to step in when necessary and give the Panthers one of the deepest linebacking corps in the league.
