The Panthers are  bringing back Lake Dawson for another interview.

The Carolina Panthers search for a new general manager is far from over. However, there is one particular candidate that the team has zeroed in on. Lake Dawson has become a strong candidate to land the job per multiple media reports.

A former assistant scouting director for the Buffalo Bills, Dawson was a scout for the Cleveland Browns in 2016. He also has front office experience, serving the role of vice president of football operations for the Tennessee Titans from 2011 to 2015.

Other candidates for the job include Houston Texans assistant general manager Jimmy Raye III and Detroit Lions general manager Martin Mayhew.

Despite harassment allegations, former Panthers interim general manager Marty Hurney is also considered a candidate at the moment. He was placed on paid leave by the Panther organization Tuesday. This was due to the beginning of a league investigation into the allegations.

Dawson seems like a strong candidate for the job. The fact that he has been a scouting director as well as a vice president of football operations holds him in high regard. He has had experience in evaluating talent as well as managing it. That could be very helpful for the Panthers moving forward as they enter a new chapter within the organization.

Dawson must be at the very least, impressing the organization during the interview process. Despite Dawson appearing to be a frontrunner for the position, nothing is set in stone. Tom Pelissero of NFL Network tweeted earlier Friday that the Panthers are not offering the position to anyone as they try to sort out the investigations.

Even still, it seems as though the search is yielding some form of progress. This should be a welcome development for Panther fans. The NFL Combine, free agency period and NFL Draft are approaching quickly, and this needs to be sorted out.
