Panthers: Team appears ready to part with Derek Anderson
The Carolina Panthers want to be very active in the free-agent quarterback market.
Derek Anderson may not be a member of the Carolina Panthers for much longer. Monday, Ben Volin of the Boston Globe tweeted that the Carolina Panthers will be looking for a backup quarterback in free agency.
Anderson is set to become a free agent on March 14.
Anderson appeared in three games in 2017, going 2-for-8 and recording 17 yards.

His most recent appearance came on January 7 when he appeared in the Wild Card Playoff Game against the New Orleans Saints. Following a hard hit on Cam Newton, Anderson came into the game and held down the fort. He attempted a pass, but did not complete it.
For his career, Anderson has thrown for 10.413 yards, 60 touchdowns and 60 interceptions. His best season came in 2007 with Cleveland. Anderson went 298-527 for 3,787 yards, 19 touchdowns and nine interceptions. For his efforts, he was named to the Pro Bowl.
Currently, the backup quarterback free agent market is not the best, but there are some names available. A.J. McCarron and Chad Henne are two of the more notable names on the list. In the case of McCarron, it might be tough to pry him away from the Browns. Browns head coach Hue Jackson wants McCarron badly.
It is interesting that the Panthers want to go with a veteran at the position. Personally, I thought the Panthers would go with someone younger at the quarterback position (i.e. potentially a mid-round draft pick), but it makes sense that they would go with a veteran in this case. When looking for a backup quarterback, you want someone with experience who you can count on in pressure situations

Anderson has had an interesting career to say the least. Will he stay in Carolina or will he be wearing a new jersey in 2018? With this latest development, he may have to look for a new home.
