Panthers: Team signs CB Ross Cockrell to two-year deal
The Carolina Panthers continue to add depth as the offseason rolls on.
The Carolina Panthers continue to make moves, and this time they improved their defense. The team signed cornerback Ross Cockrell on Wednesday to a two-year, $6.8 million deal per multiple reports.
Cockrell was drafted by the Buffalo Bills in the fourth round (No. 109 overall) of the 2014 NFL Draft. After signing a four-year contract with the team in May, he was waived in August of 2015 and cut the day after. It did not take him long to find a home as that September, he signed a contract with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

After playing with the Steelers in the 2016 campaign the Steelers resigned him to a one-year deal on April 17. However, he did not stay in the Steel City for long as he was traded by the team to the New York Giants in September for a 2018 7th round pick (220th overall),
Last year was the best of his career. He played in nine games, intercepting three passes and recording 37 tackles.
This is a very good signing for the Panthers. It is one of low-risk, high reward. Cockrell has shown that he can start as he did so with the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2016, playing in all 16 games. He has also shown he has a nose for the football. He is a solid tackler who plays physically.

The Carolina Panthers continue to add depth to both their offense and defense and that is a very smart move. They have recognized that lack of depth was a major issue for them last year and now they are loading up. I don’t think they are done either. Will they make any major moves? My guess is no. They have a strong core. However, I can see them making a few additional depth moves in order to continue strengthening the team.
