Panthers: Is Memphis WR Anthony Miller a viable option?
The Carolina Panthers met with Memphis wide receiver Anthony Miller on Monday.
The Carolina Panthers are still looking to improve their receiving group. That was evident Monday as the team hosted Memphis wide receiver Anthony Miller per multiple reports. This news was reported by Josh Norris of Rotoworld.com.
Miller is on the smaller side in terms of wideouts, measuring in at 5-foot-11, 201 pounds. Even so, his diminutive stature did not affect his production. He was a scoring machine while playing at Memphis. In last two seasons alone, Miller accumulated 2,900 receiving yards and 32 touchdown in 2016-17, proving that he can be an explosive playmaker.

In 2017, he snagged 96 passes for 1,462 yards and 18 touchdowns.
Miller is ranked No. 9 in Pro Football Focus’s 2018 Draft Rankings. He ranked No. 15 in the nation in yards per route in 2016 (3.22) while he ranked ninth in 2017 (3.47), If there is a knock on Miller, it is the fact that he has trouble catching the football. He has recorded 21 drops on 212 catchable passes over the past two seasons
The Panthers as a team improved their wide receiver core tremendously, particularly with the additions, of Torrey Smith and Jarius Wright. Adding a piece like Miller, someone who can gain yards in a hurry and stretch the field, can only strengthen the Panthers passing attack.
Is the wide receiver position one of need? After Carolina’s moves in free agency, no it is not the most pressing need. However, the more weapons the Panthers can give Cam Newton the better. If Miller can get into open space, he can be an instant playmaker. Acquiring playmakers is something the Panthers have made a priority this offseason and drafting Miller would fit under that umbrella.
