Round 3, 85th overall: Jessie Bates, Wake Forest safety

Jessie Bates met with the Panthers twice, locally and privately, so the Panthers obviously have a serious interest in him. If drafted, Bates would compete and probably be the favorite for the open starting safety position.

In 2017, Bates had a solid 77 total tackles with one interception and six passes defended. In addition, Bates had a great 100 total tackles with five interceptions and four passes defended in the 2016 season.

According to WalterFootball.com, Bates is the sixth-best safety in the draft. Bates would be excellent value for the Panthers at 85th overall.
