The final sale price was a pretty penny as Tepper bought the team for between $2.1-$2.5 billion per a report from Gabrielle McMillen of The Sporting News. Tepper is worth a total of $11 billion.
There is a caveat here. Tepper will have to relinquish his stake as part owner of the Steelers. However, since he is only a part owner, that should not be too difficult.
The deal will likely be a hot-button subject at the league meetings set to take place later this month in Atlanta. The financial committee is set to approve the sale at the meeting at which point the owners will approve of the sale as well per McMillen.
At first glance, I really like this deal for the future of the Carolina Panthers. Earlier in the bidding process, we saw names like Diddy and Steph Curry being flown around as potential owners. Their star power is unmatched, there is no question about that. However, I think having someone like Tepper who knows a bit about what it takes to run a football team is crucial.
Having been involved with the Steelers organization, Tepper knows what it takes to win. Perhaps even better, he is going from one winning culture to another. The blueprint to win is there. He has many weapons at his disposal and a mix of tremendous veteran and young talent. As an organization, the Carolina Panthers are set up for success and it appears as though Tepper is ready to try and continue the winning culture.
The search appears to finally be over. Ladies and gentleman (vote pending), introducing the new owner of the Carolina Panthers.
