Funchess will tally at least 1,000 yards

He was oh-so-close last season. With 840 receiving yards, Funchess certainly made a push at reaching the 1,000-yard plateau. As one of Newton’s go-to targets under new offensive coordinator Norv Turner, Funchess should be able to reach that mark.

Although he notched his career-high in receiving yards, there was another number that was a career-low: yards per reception. Funchess tallied 13.3 yards per catch last year. Furthermore, his longest catch of the year was a 44-yarder. That came in the season-finale against the Atlanta Falcons on New Year’s Eve, a game in which the Carolina Panthers lost by a score of 24-10. Also catching a touchdown in that game, his 24 yards per catch was a season-high.

Norv Turner’s offense is going to feature a more vertical aspect to it, so I do not think 1,000 yards is out of the question. Funchess has the talent, and as long as Newton can get the throws off, that should be an attainable goal.
