Kyle Allen, QB

Undrafted free agent Kyle Allen may be the future for Carolina at quarterback but with Cam Newton still under 30 years old, no one is expecting that to be anytime soon. However, with a new offensive coordinator it makes sense that the Panthers would begin grooming someone who can contribute if needed during the regular season.

Over the offseason Carolina elected to not sign backup Derek Anderson, who had served in the role every year of Newton’s career in addition to offering NFL experience. Entering 2018, the Panthers backup situation is questionable.

Garrett Gilbert is expected to be the leading candidate but of the three other quarterbacks on the roster, only Taylor Heinicke has attempted a pass in an actual game. Allen could earn a roster position with quality play and a quick understanding of Norv Turner’s playbook.
