Another veteran in need of a reliable back up is tight end Greg Olsen. After enduring a foot injury which kept him sidelined for much of last year, the need for a consistent contributor at his position was highlighted.

Ed Dickson played well in his absence but left for Seattle during free agency and although Chris Manhertz returns, Carolina needs someone who can play opposite Olsen and fill the gap on offense should he miss any more time.

New general manager Marty Hurney targeted this spot in the NFL Draft by selecting Ian Thomas out of Indiana. The 6-foot-5, 248 pound rookie provides another big target for Newton and coaches are hoping he will contribute this year.
