Defensive Line

Former first-round pick Vernon Butler is involved in an ongoing investigation involving allegations of assault and veteran defensive end Julius Peppers begins the season on the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list, leaving a cloud of uncertainty over this unit.

Eric Washington, who coached this group for the past seven seasons, takes over as defensive coordinator this year and is extremely familiar with his personnel. To begin, he tabbed defensive ends Wes Horton and Mario Addison to start on the outside alongside tackles Kawann Short and new addition Dontari Poe.
