Bisnowaty was the Giants’ sixth-round pick in 2017, but he has yet to find a permanent home anywhere. Bisnowaty did not make the Giants’ roster last season, and was called up to the big club near the end of the season. He played at the right tackle position when the Giants beat the Washington Redskins, but was let go by the team in May. He then found a home with the Detroit Lions for a bit, and then was waived by the team on Tuesday.
At first glance, this is not much of a major move other than the fact that Cockrell has been placed on injured reserve. At the very least, Bisnowaty will give the Carolina Panthers depth behind Taylor Moton, who now figures to be the top right tackle following the injury to Daryl Williams.
The fact that Bisnowaty has not found a home yet is a bit of a concern. Especially when you consider the fact that the Giants offensive line was abysmal last year. Bisnowaty is definitely more of a project than some of the other linemen on the roster.
Depth on the offensive line will prove to be very important as the Carolina Panthers continue to try and find a way to protect Cam Newton. Although Bisnowaty does not have an impressive resume, he does have potential.
The Giants had a rough go of things last year. A change of scenery could prove to be very beneficial, and I can only imagine that a winning culture would motivate any player to play better. Perhaps Bisnowaty can shine as a member of the offensive line.
This seems a bit odd to say, but the Panthers got better on Tuesday. In a method that could be described as addition by subtraction, they filled a position of need while shelving a player that needs the time to rest and recover due to injury. Obviously, Cockrell’s situation is less than ideal, but it may open a door for an individual that needs an opportunity.
Hopefully, Bisnowaty can find his game and become a productive member of the Carolina Panthers. If nothing else, he could at the very least be a camp body.
