The Carolina Panthers cornerback should have a great year….

As a Carolina Panthers fan, this latest news has to get you excited. Cornerback James Bradberry is looking locked in and ready to go.

More from Cat Crave

It is not as if he put up terrible numbers last year. In fact, 66 tackles, 10 pass deflections, a sack and two interceptions would say otherwise. However, back in April he told the Charlotte Observer that he felt he  missed a bunch of opportunities on defense and that he was watching even more film in an effort to get better.

Now, it appears his efforts are beginning to pay off. Steven Taranto of 247Sports wrote a piece detailing some of the key things he saw during training camp. One of them was the effort and play of Bradberry, who has looked really good in training camp to this point.

"While much of the attention among the Panthers cornerbacks has been on (Donte) Jackson, third year cornerback James Bradberry has been serving plenty of notice that he is the leader of Carolina’s cornerbacks corps. One day after breaking up a pass intended for wide receiver Devin Funchess, Bradberry really got his goat when he read a Cam Newton pass like an open book, getting inside of Funchess for an easy interception. Bradberry has been consistently performing throughout training camp, blanketing Panthers receivers and showing promise that 2018 could be his best season yet."

This is great news to hear. For one, this guy is your starter for the 2018 season. Many times, veterans who know they have a spot locked up already will coast their way through training camp. That does not appear to be the case for Bradberry. Per the most recent depth chart from OurLads.com, he is the top left cornerback at a position that also includes Captain Munnerlyn and Rashaan Gaulden. The depth at the position is impressive.

He is going to need to be the anchor of the secondary this season, and he has the skills to do so. Back in April, I wrote that he could have a big year, and it certainly looks as though he is starting off the year on the right foot. It will be interesting to see how he does in the preseason. Being a starter, he probably will get the most snaps in the third game of the preseason, when the starters play at least the first half of the game.

Next. Rising star, breakout player, rebound player, and more!. dark

If Bradberry can keep up this level of play, we could see the best secondary the Carolina Panthers have had in quite a while. Combining that with a strong front seven, the Panthers defense should be able to become a dominant force in the league.
