Traveling to Pittsburgh, the Steelers and Panthers meet again to conclude preseason play. In what has developed into a historical series, both teams seem to appreciate what each has to offer in this particular game.

Starters rarely play but those guys on the bubble are given ample opportunity to prove themselves and earn a position on the roster. Pairing themselves with another quality franchise, both teams have benefitted from their long standing history together.

This year in particular, this game takes on a new light with former minority owner David Tepper relinquishing his role in Pittsburgh to take over as full time owner of the Panthers. A few changes have already occurred as Tepper continues to implement his footprint on the franchise.

While preseason records typically don’t mean anything, under coach Ron Rivera and Newton, the Panthers have enjoyed great seasons following a good start. Twice Carolina went 3-1 in preseason play over the past seven years – 2013 and 2015.

A combined regular season record of 27-5 with two divisional titles and one Super Bowl appearance followed. So while guys are competing for positions and roster spots, there could be just a little more at stake.
