The Carolina Panthers first unofficial depth chart is littered with surprises…

Ahead of the Carolina Panthers first preseason game this week the team released their first unofficial depth chart. While there remains plenty of time for changes, a few surprises were listed now that players have been slotted into positions for the first time.

Key vacancies along the offensive line at left guard and right tackle were filled by front-runners Amini Silatolu and Taylor Moton, respectively, and as expected. The unit will be tested as they serve to protect quarterback Cam Newton in new offensive coordinator Norv Turner’s system.

On defense, Kevon Seymour has been given the starting nod opposite cornerback James Bradberry but rookie Donte Jackson isn’t too far behind. One of four rookies listed in a backup role, the Panthers may get contributions from some of their young players immediately.

In addition to Jackson, first-round pick D.J. Moore is listed behind Torrey Smith at wide receiver and linebacker Jermaine Carter falls behind Shaq Thompson, as the first surprise comes along the defensive line.
