The Carolina Panthers could have a rejuvenated gem at wideout…

There may be a bit of magic in the air at Carolina Panthers camp between two unlikely parties. Garrett Gilbert, who is currently fighting for the No. 2 quarterback spot with Taylor Heinicke, and Mose Frazier, who is currently the fourth left-side wide receiver have formed an unlikely bond. This bond may benefit Frazier more in the long run.

A rookie out of Memphis, Frazier played three seasons for the Tigers from 2013-2015. His best season came in the 2015 campaign. That year, he recorded 70 catches for 797 yards and four touchdowns. He entered the professional ranks with the Denver Broncos, signing as an undrafted free agent on May 3, 2016.

After being waived by the team on September3, 2016, he was waived and signed to the practice squad the following day. Although he tried valiantly to make the roster, he was released by the Broncos on October 18, 2016. He found a home with the Buffalo Bills for a bit, signing with them on October 25. His tenure with the Bills was short-lived however, as he was released by the team on November 4, 2016

After serving a stint with the San Francisco 49ers as a member of the practice squad for the remainder of 2016, he signed a reserve/future contract with the Panthers on January 17, 2017. After being waived again, he was promoted to the active roster on December 22.

It has been a long road for Frazier to say the least and it does not appear to be getting any easier. With the Carolina Panthers already possessing a ton of depth at wide receiver, that does not help his case to make the team either.

However as he caught a 26-yard touchdown pass from the arm of Gilbert  in Thursday’s preseason opener, Frazier showed that at the very least, he has the talent to be successful in the National Football League. He carried over the momentum of his stellar touchdown catch to the practice field on Sunday, as once again, it was Gilbert who provided the connection to paydirt as noted by Jourdan Rodrigue of the Charlotte Observer.

"The Garrett Gilbert to Frazier connection, which worked for a touchdown Thursday, is strong. Gilbert threw a 25-yard bullet to Frazier for a touchdown in coverage on Sunday, with a nice toe drag by Frazier to keep it in bounds."

If he can continue to keep this level of play up, he may find a spot on the Carolina Panthers. Even if he does not make the team, at least he has the opportunity to perform well enough for other teams to be able to take a look at him. He would be a nice depth piece for many teams

Next. Why Taylor Heinicke should win the backup quarterback battle. dark

The road to the National Football League may have been unconventional for Mose Frazier. Even still, he is proving what he can do with the Carolina Panthers. Thus, he should be considered a dark horse candidate for the team and one to watch for in the coming weeks.
