The Carolina Panthers had their final training camp practice on Monday…

The final day of training camp for the Carolina Panthers took place Monday, and it was a mixed bag of results. ‘

Quarterback Cam Newton was intercepted three times today according to Bill Voth of Panthers.com. One of the more notable interceptions fell into the arms of new signee Alex Carter. Although that is not a good number, this number should not be too concerning at the moment, given the fact that Newton appeared to be sharp last week. If performances like this continue, then it could be a cause for concern.

One of the more interesting part of practice was a deal made by Ron Rivera. If Dontari Poe and Taylor Moton caught two out of four punts, three periods of practice would be cut according to Voth. The catches were made and practice was indeed shortened.

As the Carolina Panthers close out training camp and continue preparation for the Miami Dolphins, one of the things I really want to see is the secondary get healthy. With names like Kenny Stills, Albert Wilson and Danny Amendola on the opposite side of the field, the secondary will surely be tested. On the bright side, at least they do not have to face Jarvis Landry. Those interceptions thrown by Newton today bode well for the defense giving them a bit of confidence heading into the matchup.

Rivera wrapped up practice on Monday by declaring that this Carolina Panthers team is one of the fastest to date. That is encouraging to read as speed is a big part of the National Football League. Just look at a guy like Tyreek Hill of the Kansas City Chiefs. His blazing speed has become a key attribute in the Chiefs offense. His versatility both as a kick returner and wide receiver has made him a dominant two- position player. If the Carolina Panthers can find a guy who can change the momentum of a game via his speed (or if they have multiple guys), that would certainly be a bonus.

One other tidbit that is noteworthy in Voth’s practice observations is that he seems to think Lorenzo Doss could find his way onto the roster. This would not come as a surprise to me. Doss has had a great camp and shone in the Carolina Panthers win over the Buffalo Bills last Thursday. Especially with the secondary bogged down by injuries, the emergence of Doss could prove to be crucial.

Overall, training camp has been good by all counts for the Panthers. Now, the grind of game week continues as the team looks to go on a winning streak.
