Despite falling back one position in a single poll, the Panthers remain just outside the top-10 entering their second preseason game. As the games continue, don’t expect much change for many of the teams barring a significant injury or abysmal performance.
Carolina is focusing on their own preparations and should get a good test against Miami, regardless of either team’s ranking this early in the season. No one is showcasing their entire playbook and many coaches are focused only on getting their players in shape for the season with a few well timed repetitions.
The Panthers are taking a similar approach, limiting the participation of veteran defensive end Julius Peppers and center Ryan Kalil. Rivera obviously knows what each of these two individuals is capable of once the games matter and neither is expected to see much preseason action.
Keeping them and others healthy is the main focus through game number two as the reserves and those on the roster bubble compete for positions.
