Davis on suspension, “I’m gonna attend the games”
Carolina Panthers linebacker Thomas Davis will support his teammates during suspension…
Thomas Davis has been suspended for the first four games of 2018 but he’ll be keeping up with the team’s performance during the absence. After failing a random drug screening, the Carolina Panthers veteran linebacker was issued the suspension from the NFL league office.
A substance within one of the supplements Davis had been taking for years had been recently deemed illegal, causing the long-time Panthers captain to test positive. Missing any time could be detrimental but Carolina will be without Davis during a favorable portion of the schedule.
Only one divisional game, a road trip to Atlanta, will be missed in addition to home games against Dallas, Cincinnati and the New York Giants. While Davis hasn’t mentioned attending the game in Atlanta, as a Georgia native, the short drive or an easy flight wouldn’t be out of the question.
As for home games, when asked by Morgan Fogarty of WCCB Charlotte about how he would be spending his time during the suspension, Davis offered the following comments.

"“I absolutely plan on attending the games. I know that you can’t really have access over there when you’re suspended, but I’m a PSL owner now, so I’m gonna go over there and I’m gonna attend the games, using my own tickets.”"
Under league interpretation, suspended players are assigned different levels of contact availability with their teams. Substance abuse suspensions allow for players to remain around league facilities, their teammates and even in the locker room, but those with ties to PEDs, like Davis, cannot have any access.
Tom Brady couldn’t even attend games as a fan while serving his four-game suspension for his involvement in “Deflategate” to start the 2016 season. The Patriots played three home games with one on the road, went 3-1, won the Super Bowl and no one remembers life without him.
If the Panthers follow a similar path, the Davis suspension will be forgotten as well.
