Jason Vander Laan

Jason Vander Laan is a name that many Carolina Panthers fans may not be familiar with. A fourth=string tight end per the most recent depth chart from OurLads.com, he is behind Ian Thomas, Chris Manhertz and Greg Olsen.

Perhaps his most notable play this preseason was a catch against the Buffalo Bills in the opener. Recording 22 yards on the catch, it was his best play of the day. He did not recorded any statistics in Friday’s game against the Patriots. If anything, we may see him take the field on Thursday against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Vander Laan is on the outside looking in for the 53-man roster. Ian Thomas has really made a name for himself over the course of training camp. In addition, Manhertz should be healthy sooner rather than later, and three tight ends is more than enough on a 53-man roster. He could see the field a bunch Thursday in what would be a very crucial game for him.

Given the fact that Thomas is a rookie and with a watchful eye on Manhertz’s health, Vander Laan could end up on the practice squad.
