Panthers set for preseason finale with Steelers
The Carolina Panthers preseason concludes on Thursday night at Pittsburgh…
For the first time under coach Ron Rivera the Carolina Panthers can finish a preseason schedule undefeated. None of these games obviously count in the standings, but maintaining a winning culture means competing every time on the field and despite injuries, this group has done just that.
A familiar opponent, the Pittsburgh Steelers and Carolina have played 16 consecutive seasons and all but four years since beginning play in 1995. However, this year marks a special occasion as former minority stake holder, now sole Panthers owner David Tepper returns to face his former franchise.
Even if Carolina falters, there is reason to remain optimistic as every 3-1 preseason with Rivera has ultimately resulted in an impressive regular season. Twice the Panthers have won three preseason games, 2013 and 2015, each resulting in a divisional championship and the latter a Super Bowl appearance after Carolina played an identical preseason schedule to this season.

There are a few surprising names on the bubble as preseason play concludes with a lot of talent at wide receiver, running back and along the defensive line. Additionally, the offensive line play while battling through injuries to numerous starters has provided for an optimistic outlook to start the year.
Finally, there are a handful of positions still up in the air where each candidate will be provided another opportunity to impress in live game action. The backup quarterback role, starting cornerback opposite James Bradberry and left guard immediately come to mind.
Once the final whistle blows, expect Carolina to begin roster cuts reaching an active 53-man roster before the September 1, 4:00pm deadline.
