Kyle Allen, QB

At quarterback behind Cam Newton, Gilbert and Henicke, rookie Kyle Allen has thrown only two preseason passes in limited playing time. On Thursday, he will given an entire half to showcase his talents for not only the Panthers but other potentially interested NFL teams.

Quarterback is a prized position in the league and having a solid backup behind any starter is critical – last year it led to a Super Bowl for Philadelphia, and Allen will be given an opportunity to prove he should be considered for either the practice squad in Carolina or elsewhere.

Typically, teams do not carry more than two active quarterbacks but the chances more than one, if any, wind up on the practice squad is even more slim. At this point it seems the Panthers are not likely to keep all four quarterbacks past Saturday’s deadline.
