Carolina Panthers positional grades for the complete 2018 preseason…

The Carolina Panthers concluded preseason play with a disappointing loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers. After looking well prepared for regular season play in three games prior, those battling for roster positions struggled in the Steel City.

At times the defense looked completely lost in coverage, initially appearing to be a position on the mend, depth issues in the secondary may derail their success. Opposite, the defensive front is in good shape with continued pressure from almost every pass rusher on the roster indicating there will be some tough decisions to be made here by coach Ron Rivera and his staff.

On offense, the competition for backup quarterback has been fierce and a start by Taylor Heinicke in game four may have been an attempt to see how he handled the situation. Entering the preseason, front-runner Garrett Gilbert was the pick and although he may not be as mobile, still could get the nod.

The first 53-man roster will be available by the Saturday, September 1, 4:00pm deadline and it will be interesting to see who makes the cut but how good are the Panthers overall?
