Quarterback: C

Panthers quarterback Cam Newton entered preseaon play after a healthy offseason but struggled with many of his same flaws. High passes and deciding when to scramble versus taking advantage of an underneath route or simply throwing the ball away remain to be issues.

If corrected, big things could be in store for this offense but they still have work to accomplish. Behind Newton, Gilbert presents more of a Derek Anderson type quarterback who can run the offense efficiently if needed.

Heinicke really competed and showed he too has an upside but do the Panthers really want to rely on either if Newton were to miss time? The fact is while there is no one who could replace Newton, the team could have done better here, especially when so much of the offense is dependent on quarterback play.
