Three studs from loss to Steelers
Richie Brown
You may not even know who this linebacker is. Maybe, some of you do. Richie Brown had a tremendous four-year career at Mississippi State in which he recorded 211 tackles over his final two seasons. His best year came in 2016 when he recorded 109 tackles to go along with 6.5 sacks.
Thursday, he showed more of his defensive prowess. He led all Carolina Panthers defenders with five tackles (three solo), with one of those five being for a loss. Although he may not make the roster, he made the most of his opportunity on the field. Playing aggressively and making sure to tackle soundly, he really made a positive impact on a defense that was constantly tested all evening.
This is part of the reason why I love the final preseason game. It gives me a chance to see players who I would not normally notice. At a position where guys like Luke Kuechly and Thomas Davis get much of the attention, Brown stood out on this night. If nothing else, he put together a solid performance for teams that may need an extra linebacker should the Carolina Panthers let him go. If not released, he could very well end up on the practice squad.
