Three studs from loss to Steelers
Kyle Allen
Journalists are not supposed to root for the players they cover. They are supposed to be objective and unbiased. However, I have to admit that I was rooting for quarterback Kyle Allen. This is partly because the stakes were against him coming into this game. The stakes are still against him to make the 53-man roster, but he had a strong showing Thursday.
Playing the second half, Allen went 25-of-36, throwing for 250 yards and a touchdown. He was also sacked twice for 13 yards. He threw the ball with confidence and all things considered, he did not look rusty. He looked ready to go and threw the ball with poise and accuracy.
Again, the odds are against him to make the 53-man roster. There is a possibility that he will make the practice squad. Although very raw, he possesses a lot of talent. If there is one thing that could be said about Thursday’s start, it is that it probably gave him additional confidence. To be able to throw his first-ever pro football touchdown (an 18-yard pass to Bug Howard), Allen can at least say he gave it his all.
Although he may not know his fate yet, one thing is certain: Kyle Allen made an impact tonight and this is a performance he can take with him down the road wherever he ends up.
