Cam Newton finds ways to win

Even when he is off his game a bit, Cam Newton still manages to get the job done. He did a lot of good things on Sunday, leading the Carolina Panthers to the red zone multiple times as well as putting them in positions to score. Although the team only had eight points to show for it, a win is a win.

He went 17-of-26 on the day, throwing for 161 yards. In addition, he showed that he was adept on the ground. He carried the rock 13 times for 58 yards and a touchdown to lead all Panther rushers. He played the role of field general, showing that he could lead the team in multiple ways. It almost looked like he was back at Auburn as he truly did whatever it took to get the job done.

I would expect him to accumulate more passing yards over the course of the season. People have to remember that this was his first game in Norv Turner’s offense. It was not going to be perfect. It was not, but Newton certainly did some good things. It will be interesting to see how he develops over the course of the season. He will have a great opportunity to put up big numbers next week against an Atlanta defense that is without Keanu Neal.
