The Carolina Panthers legend wants to play as soon as possible.

Carolina Panthers tight end Greg Olsen may end up playing this season after all. Per multiple media reports, the former Miami product released a statement via his Twitter account. You can read the whole thing here, but one piece of it stuck out in particular.

"“With that being said, we are optimistic this is not how my 2018 season will end. After consulting with our medical team, we have determined our best course of action is to press forward with my rehab in hopes of playing again this season. We will re-examine our options this offseason in regards to my foot and our path forward. I look forward to rejoining my teammates on the field as early as possible.”"

This nugget of information sounds a lot better than what many originally thought upon reading the Carolina Panthers official statement on Tuesday. It certainly is a lot better than what I predicted. To me, Greg Olsen sounds optimistic about his recovery. It does not sound like he wants to hang up the cleats quite yet. That is certainly good news not just for Panthers fans, but for football fans everywhere. He certainly is a hard worker and he has been fun to watch throughout the course of his football career, including when he represented the University of Miami.

The only thing I would be worried about here is if he accelerated the recovery process too quickly, or he tried to force himself back out there with the injury still present. Of course, it is easier said than done to tell a competitor not to go back out there. We have seen tremendous durability out of the tight end over the past couple of seasons.

He played in 160 consecutive games from his debut in October 2007 till Week Two of the 2017 campaign. A broken foot suffered in Week Two against the Buffalo Bills finally ended his impressive streak.

Even still, it sounds as though he has not lost his love for playing the game and wants to get back out there. The Carolina Panthers could certainly use his offensive production as well as a familiar face at the line of scrimmage. This may be a classic case where father time is starting to catch up to him and although that part is unfortunate, it is part of the game. Let’s hope we see him at Bank of America Stadium sooner rather than later.
