Offensive Line: C+

For the second straight week there was shuffling along the offensive line due to more injuries. Early in the week it was revealed that guard Trai Turner had entered into the concussion protocol and he was ruled out for the game.

As a result, backup center Tyler Larsen got the start in his place, Taylor Moton shifted to right tackle and newcomer Chris Clark played every snap at left tackle after joining the team just this week.

The Panthers allowed two sacks and Newton was hurried at times but this unit performed much better than expected. In fact, they should have been relied on more in the run game, paving the way for 121-yards and possibly more if given a little more confidence from the beginning of the game.

Depending on Turner’s status moving forward, the Panthers could have a similar lineup against Cincinnati next week before a much needed bye week. Typically an early off week is not something players and coaches appreciate but if Carolina can win at home then it may arrive at just the right time.

Overall, it was encouraging to see Newton and the offense keep fighting and put themselves in a position to tie the game late but too many miscues kept them from establishing any rhythm early. Still somewhat in search of an identity and impact players (not named McCaffrey) to build a rapport with Newton, if things get going this group could be extremely productive – despite the injuries.
