Graham Gano made his lone field goal attempt, a 40-yard attempt with barely over one-minute remaining to seal the victory. He also made each of four extra points and didn’t allow Cincinnati an opportunity to return any kickoffs during the game.
Michael Palardy punted four times, pinning the Bengals inside their own 20-yard line on three different occasions. His long of 59-yards helped pin Cincinnati back midway through the fourth quarter keeping the game close thanks to a Bengals missed field goal on the ensuing possession.
Rookie wide receiver D.J. Moore had only one punt return for four yards and no Panthers registered an opportunity at a kick return. Facing an early season bye week, Carolina may elect to tweak some things on special teams for more success moving forward.
Overall, it was a quality outing with four turnovers but otherwise the defense only forced three punts and twice allowed long scoring drives – still an improved performance from one week ago.
