The kids are alright

Rookies Ian Thomas and D.J. Moore both had sizable contributions in the win over the New York Giants. Especially for Thomas, who has the dubious task of filling Greg Olsen’s shoes, his performance on Sunday was encouraging.

Thomas caught three passes for 38 yards while Moore snagged four passes for 49 yards. The duo averaged 12.7 and 12.3 yards per catch respectively. You have heard me continue to harp on the fact that the 2018 draft class had talent that could play right away. They certainly showed that they could do that on Sunday.

This was a big game for Moore in particular. Fans have wanted to see him in an expanded role for a while now, and they got it. With the tools he brings, there should be no excuse why we do not see him out on the field more often. Whether this expanded outing on Sunday was a one-time ordeal or not remains to be seen. However, it was encouraging to see him perform well and we can only hope he builds off of this.

If these two can put together solid performances each week and build off this momentum, the Carolina Panthers may have something very special on their hands.
