The Carolina Panthers escaped with a Week 5 home win, will travel next week.

The Carolina Panthers took advantage of a few key turnovers and one costly special teams miscue to score enough for an early lead over the New York Giants on Sunday. It almost wasn’t enough as opposing quarterback Eli Manning drove his team down the field for a fourth quarter touchdown and extra point, putting Carolina down one.

With just over one minute remaining, Cam Newton and the Panthers attempted to reach field goal range but fell just short, stalling only five yards into Giants territory. Coach Ron Rivera faced a few options – a long pass, multiple laterals or try and kick a 63-yard field goal.

He chose the latter and Graham Gano made good on his longest career attempt and second longest field goal in NFL history. Clearing the crossbar with room to spare, Gano was mobbed at midfield by his fellow specialists, Newton and others.
